only thing to do is jump over the moon

Ok, people, let's talk storage. My movie collection is overspilling its bounds, but I can't seem to find anything suitable that isn't ugly or ridiculously expensive. I have about 120 each of DVD and VHS (I'm a junkie, I'll admit it).

So: how do you store your media, where did you purchase said storage, and how much (if you're willing to spill) did it cost?

I really need another damn bookcase too, but I don't want to think about that right now. ;)

I want it to be Tuesday so that the new Flogging Molly cd will be out. They're going to have it on sale at Target, which gives me inner conflict. Half of my brain is saying "yay, they'll get more exposure and more people will know the coolness that is Flogging Molly." The other, less classy, side of my brain is singing there goes the neighborhood, here come the debutantes.

I like for people to know about bands I like, so that they will play many concerts and be able to pay their hotel bills. On the other hand, I hate it when ticket prices triple, you make the move from cozy venue to giant ampitheatre, and you start spending your concerts being given the stinkeye by teenies in terrycloth miniskirts with sweaty, pimply boyfriends. *sighs*

There's a new Flogging Molly CD out on Tuesday?!

*mourns extreme poverty*

Oh yes, yes there is. $9.98 at Target, if the extreme poverty permits it.

Eeep, I did not mean to cause wibble-age. *comforts*

okay, media:

cds: I keep my cds on a shelf that fits about 550 cds, and I got it at media play i think for about $50. It's a pretty decent looking unit, wooden and everything. It's the kind of unit with adjustable shelves so it would fit vhs tapes or dvds.

videos: I keep my vhs tapes on my old cd shelf. It was about $35.

dvds: I store my dvds on an old metal bookshelf. It was free.

books: my bookcases were also free. Perhaps I am a bad person to ask about this.

I hate you and your free storage. Just kidding. =) I'm thinking I need a bookshelf, but I'm either going to have to hold out until Xmas or keep scavenging the Salvation Army. I'm on a pretty tight TA's budget.

I will never have enough book bookshelves. When I moved into this apartment, I had a bunch of books in storage, but I've been trading in the ones the I don't care about for books I really want, so they've kinda taken over the place.

yeah i need a new bookshelf.

[identity profile] thepsychicclam.livejournal.com 2004-09-12 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
you should get another one of those shelves you have. i love that thing! it rules. \o/ but i too have a storage problem. i just stack things wherever they fit *g*

omg i want new butch, new flogging molly WHYFORE AM I BROKED???1!11!!

[identity profile] lyricalnights.livejournal.com 2004-09-12 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Which shelf, the black thing? Yeah, I love it, but it is far too small. Wonder if two stacked beside each other would look stupid. *ponders*

I don't know, but after Butch and FM, I will be of the broked until the end of the month. =(

i don't think it would, or you could put them on two diff walls or like spaced out one on both sides of the tv or some other neat decorating thing like that.

i'm simplifying my life...mother nature has made me quite complex enough, thanks.
i buy the 200 cd holders from walmart. they cost about 14- 16 bucks. have 2 full of my music, and have up to H on my dvd's in the third. as you know, it's an energy thing. *shrugs* i really like the room that has freed up, tho. make sure to make master sheets, tho.
luck.

[identity profile] lyricalnights.livejournal.com 2004-09-13 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually have several of those for my cds, but would prefer to leave my DVDs in their cases. I would make some kind of mess if I tried to keep them organized separately.

Thanks for the suggestion though. =)

[identity profile] may-lyn.livejournal.com 2004-09-13 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
i've been taking out the papers from the cases, and the single sheet, usually, from the inside, and keeping them in a folder. or folders. i leave the boxed sets the way they are.
when i spoke of simplifying my life, i must have been joking. hubby, 2 kids, grandpuppy, cat, turtle, gerbil...and the humans besides me seem to wait with baited breath for me to clear off spaces so they have new places to stack their junk. *sighs* i need a maid. and a huge mansion, so everyone could keep their stuff out of my living room and dining room.

and the humans besides me seem to wait with baited breath for me to clear off spaces so they have new places to stack their junk.

I know that feeling. My family are all habitual packrats; we save everything. I've gotten much better about throwing away junk and not having so much stuff to start with, but it's hard.

my newest thing, i want a completely clean kitchen every night. no dishes left to...what's the phrase for putting water in it and waiting till mom washes it? oh, yeah, left to soak. they think i'm out of my mind, i had to relax my standards a lot while i was so sick, and i was sick for about 2 years. so, now, i'm feeling like i can put foot down again, all i need is a place to put foot down....(argh)
